Narragansett, Rhode Island

Adding the Rhode Island sticker

Today we woke up in Rhode Island! We are staying at Fisherman's Memorial State Park.  It is gorgeous here!  Here's a glimpse of our Rhode Island adventure so far...
Our Rhode Island "home away from home"
Another view... Cozy campsite

Peek-a-booooo

First time on a Rhode Island beach.  Lots of seaweed (p-u!)  It was crazy to see rocks along the beach!  Really big ones too!  Braden found one shaped like a whale that we are keeping as a souvenir! Aaron went in the water past his knees ( so did Bodie) - the rest of us thought it was a bit chilly!!!

Treasures?  Or shark eggs? Hmmmm

Driving through Narragansett- the houses here leave you breathless!  There are even ones that look like castles- that are homes!!!!  This is the Information Center!

We just HAD to find out what a doughboy was... I also had my first lobster roll.  It was ok - Braden and I prefer our lobsters whole :-)  The entire family enjoyed the doughboys though, which were essentially fried dough with sugar or cinnamon sugar!  Can it get much better?  Can't wait to see what we get into tomorrow!

Portland, Connecticut - Day on the CT River

Yesterday, we left camp and drove down to Portland, CT on the way to our final destination -Narragansett, Rhode Island. Bryan's cousins, John and Anthony ( and their families) keep their boats in the Portland area.  We had an awesome boating adventure on the Connecticut River with the cousins- we enjoyed cruising down the river to Essex, which is a quaint, beautiful little town!  It was a fun filled, sunshiny day!  We are very thankful for time with CT family and this experience- similar to boating on the Chesapeake, but also very different.  Here are some highlights:

Marina on the Connecticut River- we parked our RV in one of the shady hangers and we were off!

Some of the sights on the river
That's Gillette Castle ( William Gillette was famous for portraying Sherlock Holmes for 34 years in theaters around the world)  He spent over $1 million dollars building the castle from 1914-1919!

Navigating the marina in Essex

Stopped here for lunch and a nice walk through town!  The toy store was a hit!  So was lunch at the Black Seal- YUM

Cousins playing Tetherball at the marina

Checking out the park in Essex
View from the park

Aaron and John Benjamin

Checking out the spider webs- evidently Essex Island is also known as Spider Island

We had to head back after lunch :-( We needed to get back on the road to Rhode Island.  Thanks John and Melissa for a wonderful day!!!!

Bodie : Adventures of a Bulldog

Bodie goes where we go.  He's one of us.  Except he doesn't have any responsibility.  And he sleeps a lot.  In a variety of locations.  He has a good life- here's a little peek into his charmed life!

Back home on his favorite couch

Barkhamsted/Winsted Connecticut

We are having a blast in Connecticut!  The days have been warm and the nights have been chilly- perfect fall weather!  This part of the trip has been dedicated to visiting family!  Bryan's family is from Connecticut and we've been able to visit with his Aunt Linda and Uncle Jerry and cousins John and Melissa and their kids.  We've taken rides down Memory Lane -its been awesome for Bryan to share his memories, historic locations and family history with our boys!  Here are some pictures of our Connecticut adventures!

This was our Connecticut home away from home :-)

Braden doing what he does best! He's had a fantabulous time fishing - he's caught Bluegill, Bass and Yellow Perch here.

Great playground too!

Fishing with John Benjamin

This was a great place to spend a Friday evening!  The only thing better than go-carts is go-carts with cousins!!!!

And the only thing better than go-carts is Quads!!! John and Melissa and the kids were so awesome to share their toys with us!

Bryan was the biggest kid of all!

Aaron didn't stop smiling all day!

Today we went on a hike with the Ellis Family.  It was an official uphill, heart pumping, cardio blasting hike-o-rama!!!!  Once we climbed to the top, we realized it was well worth it!

Cousins taking a break after a hike to the top of the mountain and then to the top of the tower!
John and Bryan checking out the craftsmanship!
We just had to stop here for our own Little Bear!!!! ❤Bearclaw131❤

Here we are working hard on our studies during the week!  The boys amaze me everyday!

After a fun filled week, we are getting ready to head to Rhode Island tomorrow. Here's our last evening around the campfire.  The boys and the dog are already inside, I think we wore them out!!!!
