2018 New Years Keys Trip

We traveled to the Keys a bit differently this time.  Bryan and Braden towed the boat with the Jeep and Aaron and I drove the motorhome.  I may have taken an accidental detour THROUGH Miami, so the guys got to the campground first.  The Keys experienced a major hurricane back in September and they are still recovering.  Many businesses and campgrounds were still closed and the clean up process was still in progress.   It was sad to see so many things destroyed and trash piled up, waiting to be hauled out.  It was also bit chillier than we're used to the Keys being.  We had a nice campsite and our friends Jordan and Brennan came to visit us.  We were able to get out on the boat and fish (and spearfish!) on days that weren't too windy.  We had some great family days on the boat, exploring Sombrero Reef Lighthouse and surrounding waters!  Aaron and I also enjoyed kayaking and exploring the mangroves.  We saw some massive iguanas that survived the storm.  All in all, it was another fabulous Keys trip and we look forward to spending more there in the future!

Plenty of room for all the toys

It was chilly (I am wearing a sweater), so I decided to draw

Piles of trash and debris line the road, waiting t0 be hauled out of the Keys.  This is outside of our favorite coffee place, Curly's Coffee.

It is so sad to see this...

We came across this guy (He's a Goliath Grouper).  He was the size of a Volkswagen.  Mother nature is amazing!!!

The boys swam in the same water as the Goliath Grouper

Later in the day, the boys went spearfishing and caught some Lion fish, which are invasive and need to be destroyed

SCORE!
