Mystic, Connecticut ( and surrounding area)

Today, we hopped in the Jeep and headed back to CT for a day trip.  We had a few more things to check out in Connecticut ( CT is Bryan's favorite state so far!)  We didn't want to miss the Mystic Seaport and we had heard about a Native American Museum that we really wanted to visit that wasn't too far from Mystic.  The Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center was our first stop - I cannot explain how AMAZING this place is!!!!!!!!!! If you are in the area, you really should stop by :-)
We met a kind, very friendly woman named Ms. Fran (who turned out to be the Senior Educator of the museum) - she took us under her wing and showed us how the Native Americans lived long ago- she also showed us some "behind the scene" views of the Native American Village... It made the trip extra special ❤Here  are some of the highlights of our day here and in Mystic!

On our way into the museum- it's not actually in CT, the reservation is its
own Sovereign Nation!
Large observation tower

The museum took you through a tour of the last 20,000 years of Native American history.  We started in the Ice Age, then saw how families worked together during an ancient caribou hunt, visited a 16th century recreated Pequot village and saw numerous life-size dioramas and cool exhibits!

Giant beaver! It was the size of a large dog- I wish I had taken a picture of the prehistoric beaver skull and the modern day beaver skull- there was a huge difference.  This stuff fascinates me!

An exhibit showing how the tribe works together during a caribou hunt - all members worked together and everyone's job was equally important.  They all worked together for the greater good of their community.

One of the reasons I loved this museum was the many ways they provided information about the exhibits- some things you had to read, other times there were mini movies and other times they had these cordless phone type devices that explained the exhibit!  Genius!!

The fishing exhibit was a hit!

Giant sturgeon( they can live for over 60 years) and for the record, Braden was there checking it all out 😀 He was always a few steps ahead of me and wasn't in the mood for pictures!

See, there he is!  He's even participating in the learning adventure!

Beautiful photos of present-day members of the Mashantucket Tribal Nation.
