Salem, Massachusetts

Here we are in Salem!  We are staying at Winter Island Maritime Park.  In the 1930's the US Coast Guard used Winter Island as a Search and Rescue Base.   There are also bunkers from the Civil War on the grounds!! We have an amazing campsite - it's right on the water ...steps from the Atlantic Ocean!  Right outside our front window, we have a breathtaking view!  We see boats coming and going from the Salem Harbor all day and can explore beaches full of sea glass treasures and tidal pools full of little stone crabs and fish, which the boys love.  We are minutes from downtown Salem and we have enjoyed exploring this quirky town.  We have also ventured to Gloucester and visited the Fisherman's Memorial.  Tomorrow is Field Trip Day!  We will be exploring the New England Aquarium and the Science Museum of Boston. We are really enjoying our time in Massachusetts :-)  Here are some of the highlights!

There we are...All the way to the right, closest to the flagpole!

Another view of our humble abode

Happily posing after the Massachusetts sticker was attached
Look where we've been so far!
The view from our front windshield - it rained the first day...still beautiful though
Exploring the tidal pools

Grass shrimp - possibly one of the largest he's ever found!
Waikiki beach... Seriously!!!  There's one here too :-)
Exploring is one of our favorite things to do here
It never gets old :-)
Finding new things each time we go out for a walk
Just a tiny sample of our loot :-)
In Salem... Samantha from Bewitched!!!!!!
I loved Bewitched growing up!

Lots of eccentric shops in Salem

Closed because of the government shutdown but we still walked around
We couldn't get on the boat though :-(

Oh well.....we went for ice cream instead :-)

One of the highlights of Tuesday was LOBSTA!  We had finished school and I was walking the dog near the dock.  The lobster boats were coming in for the day and I was lucky enough to meet a captain named Peter who thought I looked like I could use a lobster dinner :-)  We bought 4 and he showed the boys his boat and told us a little about how he catches lobsters!  It was a delicious day!
Lots of lobsters!

Here's our little party!
And after!  Bryan did a fantabulous job steaming them up!!!

Sure beat last nights dinner....
Although tacos and salad wasn't that bad... Honestly, we eat pretty well!

Today we did Science class outside- we learned about classifying rocks... What better place to classify rocks... Than a rocky shoreline!!!
Working together
Love there little scientists

Back to exploring...
Do you see this teeny, tiny fish???
Braden caught it with his bare hands....
Caught with Thomas Boys Teamwork

Can't get enough of these views
Right out front...
